What Is Atlanta Yeek? A Three Part Lecture Series

This lecture will highlight Atlanta Yeek's genesis. Focusing on Yeek's development across the 1980s and 1990s, we will cover topics such as Atlanta's early skating culture, Miami and ATL Bass music, Yeek's transition to Cranking, and notable Yeek groups. We will also view select media highlighting Yeek's prominence in Atlanta's foundational hip hop culture.

This lecture will highlight Atlanta's transition away from Yeek, and later conservation efforts made by Yeek elders. Focusing on the 2000s and 2010s, we will cover topics such as the dissolution of Atlanta Bass music infrastructure, the legacy of Yeek groups new and old, and attempts at documenting Yeek.

This lecture will highlight Atlanta Yeek's current resurgence period. Focusing on the 2020s, we will cover topics such as Bass music's re-popularization, the nostalgic appeal of "Old Atlanta," Yeek on social media, and current Yeek codification efforts.
